This was 8 years ago..... How much closer are we now?
There seem to be 3 main lines of approach to program a robot. The first is by programming it completely and every single action will be the result of the intended behavior. The second is to program to t learn within specified parameters. And the third is to have it evolve from a simple set of rules without being guided. This third one can be dangerous as the result is a completely new organism, whose behavior is fundamentally unpredictable and whose interests/goals are not aligned with ours but with some reward/punishment system that was used to evolve it. There can be a potential danger here.
