Creativity is something which blows my mind.
It can vary from nearly completely random action to the application of known paradigms to similar situations. But the highest benefit seems to come from a middle range between the two extremes. Cases such as the one of Einstein, who took various creative steps which revolutionized physics, show us the relevancy of this kind of "directed" creativity.
It's not surprising at all that creating in a radical, useful and methodical way is still the characteristic that most often leads us to label someone as a genius.
