The original arguments about god has already been settled. There is no god as described in the bibles that christians buy or the korans that muslims read or the torahs of the jews. Note that the original texts are widely known to be wrong, that believers most often have to make use of sophistry to "prove god" [i.e. "are you sure you even exist?", "god exists because it is defined as existing"], and that some even deny reality [i.e. "evolution is not true"] in order to maintain that they have not lost the argument over the existence of their claimed god and of their corresponding "words" and "scriptures" or books. Those who don't take their religious texts and tales as being literally true (especially the parts that are most obviously wrong) but as being a metaphor for some deeper truth and those who think there is a secret code or a "right meaning" for those words, have not shown their claims to be true since app...

Imagine reading the science news and seeing something like this...

Imagine reading the science section in the huffingtonpost or yahoo news and seeing an article that went something like this: A group citing “traditional Greek Religious traditions” has successfully stopped the placement of critically important scientific instruments atop Mt. Olympus, citing “spiritual” objections to what they termed “a violation of one of their most sacred sites.” You go on to read how in ancient Greek Religious traditions, Mt. Olympus is considered to be the home of the ‘Dodekatheo’ or the twelve Olympians. The article does not really go in to detail but being the inquisitive person, you look at the ESA site and see that the instrument in question is designed to detect the effects of gravity waves, and if it was successful, it would unlock some of the secrets of the earliest moments of the early universe. You wonder what “spiritual” beliefs could stop such an important area of inquiry, and are surprised that anyone still would profess adhere...

IQ tests and their change over time

IQ tests are always standardized for a mean of 100. But over time they have become increasingly difficult and a 100 score now would correspond to a 130 score in the time of our grandparents. The reason why that is happening is because intelligence isn't strictly dependent on our genes. It is also dependent on our mental tools (this is called crystallized intelligence, as opposed to fluid intelligence that appears to be mostly unchangeable through training and education).
