Popularized in Sherlock Holmes ..., this method actually is real

Popularized in Sherlock Holmes books (and at least one one of the tv series), this method actually is real and works incredibly well. In fact, it is used by most, if not all, of the memory championship competitors. They do not possess an incredible memory, they just use this technique, sometimes with little twists. The basics are very simple: associate visually an object with another in a single mental image and the memory of one will trigger the memory of the other.

As I have mentioned before, there is a section here (Ars Memoriae) solely dedicated to reintroducing this method/practice into our society and schools.
