Humans are not machines, we are organic, and methods for helping humans flourish to their highest potentials need to take that into account: our natural variation, our chaotic development, our motivation, ...
We want and need more people doing/pursuing what they love. In order for that to happen we must expose people to a wider breadth of experiences and opportunities, and do it continually (after all, people change over time and what they love and want and need may change along with them).
When something is taken for granted (like many old-timey teaching methods are) it can easily go unnoticed and remain unchanged, but sometimes someone comes along and takes note.
