The way we perceive quantities is logarithmic. That's why the difference between 1 and 2 objects is highly noticeable but the difference between 100 and 101 is not. And so is our time perception. Our senses are simply designed for evolutionary purposes: there is no evolutionary advantage in differentiating between 100 and 101 lions. But between 1 and 2 is a life or death situation.
