There is a seemingly incompatible difference in the perception that we have of the brain versus the mind. One is apparently finite and self-contained and the other apparently infinite and self-containing. Even if we try to think of the mind as finite it's self-containment leads to notions of infinity like reflections of a mirror upon another. Awareness of our own awareness.
How can something seemingly infinite be contained in something seemingly infinite?
It may be the case that somewhere there was an assumption which is incorrect. Maybe the mind is not fully contained in the brain (ie. extended mind theory). Maybe the brain is also seemingly infinite in some sense (due to its ability to influence itself for instance).
Or maybe the mind is not infinite at all (seems so due to it's potential, but not all of that potential can be fulfilled due to limitations of the brain - such as brainpower and lifespan).
But maybe the lack of a definite boundary in our mind and the obvious boundaries in our physical brain is a false paradox. A bit like Achilles's and the turtle. Looks to me that it is a fractal like pattern with a compression of older memories and the elimination of details coupled with changes in the biases of the mind (and physical structures of the brain) which in the end makes it possible for a process which lacks boundaries (at least in some sense) to unfold in a finite structure.
It never ceases to amaze me that all that I can sense, feel or think of is in fact a construct of my mind. Even this very room in which I move is strangely inside my mind even as I look at it.
